As part of our ongoing contributor series, this month we’re spotlighting the always insightful (and super honest!) Angelene Woodard of Unqualifed Mom.
As a Homeschool Super Freak contributor, we asked Angelene to help us get to know her better.
Here’s what she had to say…
Number of kids homeschooled:
I am currently homeschooling our two oldest sons and plan to homeschool their little sis when she reaches school age.
Number of years homeschooling:
Six (and this has been our best year yet).
Why did you start homeschooling?
We moved three times in three years, and I was completely terrified of our zoned school system.
Tell us about one of your biggest homeschooling struggles.
Are you kidding?
So, let me make a long story short.
A personality test revealed the absolute worst career choice for someone like me would be a Kindergarten teacher. I was homeschooling our youngest son – who was in Kindergarten at the time.
I struggle with all things homeschool. Lack of patience, lack of order, constant interruptions, silly songs, arts and crafts, overwhelm, non-stop multi-tasking, never ever being alone, second guessing myself, second guessing my children, second guessing our chosen curriculum, etc.
Homeschooling is my biggest struggle.
Give one piece of advice to parents considering homeschooling.
Know your strengths and weaknesses.
Humble yourself already and ask for help if/when needed!
(That was three pieces of advice.)
Name 3 Fun/Interesting Facts About Yourself:
1. I was a television show host in high school.
2. I was a real estate auctioneer once upon a time. (Yes, I can do the chant!)
3. I’m a wannabe author and am working on a very cool manuscript.
What are three of your favorite blog posts from your site, Unqualified Mom?
Anything else you want us to know?
Even though homeschooling has brought me to my knees and proved I am unqualified on all accounts, it is still the most thrilling, satisfying, and beautiful thing I have ever done.
I wouldn’t change a thing!
