My kid has been talking about the Dora The Explorer movie since they first showed the Dora And The Lost City Of Gold Trailer. (Seriously? The Dora character does look pretty entertaining in it.) And, you know we love some teach with movies moments, so I decided to put together a theme study unit featuring (you guessed it!) Dora! Check out them out for some Dora movie fun!
In case you’ve been living under a rock or off-grid for, like, 42 years, here’s a quick run down of Dora (before she was ‘the Dora movie’).
Who is Dora the Explorer?
About Dora the Explorer
Dora started as an animated cartoon television series on Nickelodeon.
She is a Latina, 7-year-old girl, who is an explorer.
In each episode, Dora explores an area, puzzle, or mystery and asks for the viewers’ help as she goes along.
During that time, she also teaches the viewers a Spanish word or phrase.
Dora And Friends Into The City
Later, there was a show called Dora And Friends Into The City.
In these episodes, Dora is now 10 years old and has all new adventures all over the city.

How old is Dora the Explorer?
In the Dora the Explorer episodes, Dora is much younger than she is in the movie.
On the TV show, Dora is in elementary school, around 7 years old.
There was also a later series that followed Dora and her friends when she was 10.
However, in the live-action movie, Dora is a teenager.

The newest Dora the Explorer movie is called Dora and the Lost City of Gold and all the fun
Dora and friends are back!
The live-action movie picks up Dora as a teenager and entering high school.
(Probably her scariest adventure yet . . .)
(Digress.)
Anyway . . .
In the movie, Dora’s newest adventure is to save her parents, while also trying to figure out the mystery surrounding a lost Incan civilization.
She takes along some high school classmates and the Dora show favorites like Boots and Backpack for all the shenanigans.
The movie is rated PG.
