This super cute paper flower handprint craft is a fun preschool craft, toddler activity, daycare crafts for spring, summer camp activities, or craft ideas for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or for grandparent gifts.
My mom still has this hanging on her refrigerator years later when my daughter made it for her as a Grandparent’s Day gift.
And, it’s a low-prep craft! You only need paper, glue, and stamper or craft paint for easy kid activities.
How To Make A Paper Flower Handprint Craft
One of the things I love about kids handprint art (or fingerprint crafts) is that it captures a moment in time for your child and truly becomes a keepsake craft you’ll cherish for years.
You can also make this as family handprint art to frame as spring craft or summer crafts for family time activities, too!
Don’t miss our hand print craft growing poem after the craft instructions.
Craft Supplies for Handprint Flowers Craft
- 1 piece white construction paper
- 1 piece brown construction paper
- 5 pieces assorted bright-colored construction paper
- Washable paints, colors of choice (we used purple because that’s what my daughter wanted to use)
- Growing Poem – printed on white paper or written by child (see poem later in post)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Paper plates
- Hand wipes and paper towels
CRAFT TIP: I highly recommend that you grab art aprons like these or cover clothes with old t-shirts before making this kids’ craft, especially if you’re making this as a toddler handprint craft or working with preschoolers.
Paper Flower Handprint Craft Instructions
FOR THE VASE
Cut a vase out of the brown construction paper.
*I basically cut a triangle with the pointy tip cut off/straight across, but you can make your paper vases for flowers any shape.
Write or print the poem (below) onto a white piece of paper.
Cut the poem out in the same shape as the vase, just slightly smaller.
Glue the poem paper onto the brown vase.
CRAFT TIP: I also had the kids write their name and year below the poem and I’m so glad I did this now. It’s so cute to see how my daughter wrote her name years ago!
Set aside.
FOR THE FLOWERS
Cut five flower shapes on five different colors of construction paper.
Allow the child to practice cutting with the vase shapes and the flower shapes.
For smaller children, you can pre-cut the shapes or buy paper flowers like these.
Set aside.
FOR THE HANDPRINT
Place paint onto a paper plate or craft tray like this.
Have child spread fingers and help them lightly dip palm into paint.
In the middle of the plain white sheet of paper, gently place the hand print on the paper, pressing down lightly. (We put too much paint and pressed down too hard so it was a little blurry, so don’t be like us.)
IMPORTANT CRAFT TIP: Keep those fingers spread so there is room to put the flowers on!
Gently lift hand and wipe with wet wipes and paper towels.
While the handprint is drying, lightly dip thumbs into paint and make thumbprint circles in the middle of each flower.
We matched the paint color to the flower color, but you can alternate colors and it would still be really cute.
CRAFT NOTE: If I had to do it over again, I would use stamper ink for the flower centers. We got the paint on the thumbs too think and (again) pressed down to hard and you can’t really tell that they’re thumbprints. A good way to do this is also put paint on the thumb and then do a practice thumb “stamp” on a piece of scrap paper and then immediately onto the flower.
TO ASSEMBLE THE PAPER FLOWERS HANDPRINT CRAFT PAGE
Glue the vase (with poem) onto the white construction paper right below the handprint.
Then, carefully glue each flower onto the fingers – one flower onto each finger.
Handprint Flowers Growing Poem
This is to remind you
When I have grown so tall
That once I was quite little
And my hand was very small.
I hope you enjoy this cute paper flower handprint craft!
