Before we go any further with our homeschool testing prep ideas (including homeschool testing prep for kindergarten!), you may be wondering what is a test prep class?
What is a test prep course?
A test prep course can be an online class or even professional tutors who review test questions, discuss strategies, and give testing preparation and test-taking tips for students. It can help a student understand testing guidelines and accomplish higher scores on tests.
What is the purpose of test prep?
Testing preparation can help:
- Give students an actual representation of the test
- Set student expectations for a specific test
- Become familiar with testing formats and subject matter
- Understand what types and styles of test questions are presented on the examination
- Practice timed tests
- Students estimate their scores based on performance and improvement during the examination prepping
- Decrease the stress of standardized testing and reduce test anxiety
- Be prepared for test results
How do students prepare for tests?
How Can You Help Your Child Prepare for Standardized Tests?
- Understand which standard exam / kind of test that you need
- Find the best test available to measure your student’s score
- Review the requirements for testing
- Remind students that the goal is not perfect test scores, but to do their best on the exam
- Prepare and provide healthy snacks during study times
- Encourage them to get a good night’s sleep before the test
I wanted to include this here with these testing preparation resources because I see a lot of discussion on can you take SAT after you graduate high school?
Can you take the SAT after high school?
YES ! You can take the SAT while in high school or even once you’ve graduated from high school. The website even has a specific area for discussion of non-high schooler testers that covers the information you need.
If your homeschooled students are on the fence about college or other paths that may need an SAT score, then hold off until they are ready after high school for college admissions.
