Home Science Tools for At Home Science Class
The great thing about homeschool science or STEM learning at home is that you don’t need to follow a specific homeschool science curriculum. Science is one of those school subjects that you don’t necessarily need to follow a course that builds on the last lesson.
You can learn about magnets one week and then combustion the next! And, you can easily do that with homeschool science tools!
Use something like these STEM Challenge Learning Cards for homeschool science experiments along with some of our suggestions below.
Also, you can easily advance science for kids easy to hard based on age and learning level.
Here are home science tools to help you out and how to homeschool science…
1. Online Science Classes
There are a ton of places for online science for kids, but one of our favorite for middle school and up is Great Courses Plus.
Great Courses Plus has a huge variety of online courses for all topics, including real science for kids — they even have a cool high school science series with short lectures to introduce your student to different aspects of science (like botany, physics, astronomy and more), earth science for kids, and more.

If you’re looking for science for kids videos for all ages, try YouTube’s Crash Course Science (free science for kids YouTube).
2. Kids’ Science Crates
Can I bet honest here?
I haven’t “taught” homeschool science in YEARS. That’s because we use STEM learning crates and my daughter learns SO MUCH.
Try out a monthly (quarterly, etc.) science for kids club like the STEM Discovery Boxes or Club SciKidz Lab and see what you think!

3. Science Charts, Diagrams, and Models
Science charts and diagrams are important home science tools, especially if you have visual learners.
Bonus if you can get a science model that they can disassemble/reassemble or build for hands-on science experiments and learning.
Try these science charts, diagrams, and models:
- Periodic Table of Elements poster (and other affordable, educational diagrams/posters)
- The Science Timeline Wallbook
- Muscular & Skeletal System Anatomical Poster Set
- Understanding Skin Flip Chart
- SmartLab Toys Squishy Human Body
- DIY Solar Planetarium
- Intro To Atoms, Molecules, Bonding, Chemistry
4. Microscopes
If you’re going to do science at home, you definitely want to add a microscope. Not only can you buy prepared slides of things your kids wouldn’t normally get to see (human blood, animal tissue, etc.), your kids can even make their own slides of things they find outside or around the house!
With all that said, choosing a microscope can be overwhelming. You don’t want to waste money on something so cheap that it doesn’t magnify, but you may not need a top of the line microscope for homeschool either.
If you have young kids, a starter microscope will be fine, but they’ll quickly grow out of it in a couple of years.

5. Dissection Kits
Did you know you can get dissection kits for homeschool?

Try this New Path Learning Owls & Owl Pellets Set to go along with your owl pellet dissection!
6. Science Games
Playing science games is a fun way to introduce kids to science and also tackle difficult topics in ways that aren’t as intimidating.
Plus, science games are good for group learning or learning across multiple ages/stages.
Try these board games for you own game science school:

7. Science Flash Cards
I love using flash cards in learning because they can be used to quiz, as a group game, or kids can even use them on their own.

8. Children’s Science Books
Lastly, you’ll want to add some good kids’ science books to your learning. We love these children’s books on science:
