How To Make Money From Home
So you’re wondering about homeschool jobs and what are the best jobs for moms who homeschool that still leave time for your stay-at-home mom duties, homeschooling, and life?
(YES! You can be a working homeschool mom and you can homeschool!)
If you are searching out jobs for homeschooling moms and how to make money from home (or best jobs for single moms), don’t go into adding additional responsibilities to your already busy schedule lightly.
Here’s how. . .
(Just tell us how to make money online already, right?! KEEP READING!)
First…
Can a working mom homeschool?
Yes! The great thing about homeschooling is the flexible schedule. There are many moms who work and homeschool. You can tailor your homeschooling around your work schedule (and vice versa) and make legitimate income for homeschool moms!
So, if you’re wondering, “Can I work from home and homeschool?” the answer is yes!
HOWEVER…
Work and homeschool together is tough.
And, it’s exhausting.
Even with all that said . . . it CAN be done if you’re committed to some outside-the-box thinking (and non-traditional scheduling).
(I’ve been working from home for 18 years and homeschooling 8+ of those years. Yes. It can be done!)
So, what are real work from home jobs?
We’re going to talk about legitimate work at home jobs — not those lists where you click over and you’re like, “Arrrrrrrgh! I can’t open a daycare!” or the ::eyeroll:: “assemble products at home” jobs.
(Work at homes jobs have come a long way from stuffing envelopes! YAY!)
Whether you are wondering, “What are the best part time jobs for moms?” or “What are the best jobs for mothers to do full time from home?” or are looking for the best jobs for the future or right now, we’ve got you covered with choices.
Before we get to how to extra money at home, I want to give you some things to think about…
Questions to ask before considering the best part time jobs for moms (or, even full time jobs):
What you really need when looking for the best jobs for stay home moms is to find the your thing (if you don’t already know what it is).
Your “thing” is something that you will enjoy doing!
And, before you find your thing, you first need to ask:
- How much time can I dedicate to a job or business? (Are you looking for the best part time jobs for moms or the best full time jobs for moms? Or, are you looking for occasional online jobs for a little extra cash?)
- When can I work (mornings? only afternoons? nights?)?
- What is the minimum amount I need to contribute financially to the family to meet our goals?
Really give some serious thought to each of these questions because the answers will save you time and energy when narrowing your searches to make money with online jobs from home, whether it be best jobs for moms part time or full time!
After that, start brainstorming some ideas on what you would like to get paid to do.
I recommend setting a timer for 5 minutes and listing EVERYTHING that comes to mind, without editing.
Then, set another timer, this time for 2 minutes and pick out your top 3-5 things that you think you can make money doing from home.
After that, you can list out the steps under each idea HOW you will make money doing that.

WORKING PARENT HOMESCHOOLING
Now that you’ve asked the questions to help you find the best part time jobs for moms (or full time jobs), let’s look at how to work and homeschool.
(Yes, many people do it! There are even single working parent homeschooling!)
Maybe you don’t need a full time job while homeschooling, but you need extra money making ideas while you home school or help pay for the homeschoolers’ classes outside of the home.
So, what are the best jobs for moms and how can you make a little extra cash (or save more, like for emergency fund savings–which we cover in our free guide below!) so that you can contribute to family finances while homeschooling and make sure that you stay on a homeschool budget?
Before we get to the specific ways to make money, I want to give you five VERY IMPORTANT tips when figuring out how to work and homeschool.
5 EFFECTIVE Tips To Follow for Finding the Best Jobs for Stay at Home Moms (Who Also Homeschool)
TIP #1. Ditch the MLM companies.
OK, this first one is going to be controversial for some, but I would like you to be open to what I have to say because it could SAVE YOU HUNDREDS (or THOUSANDS) of dollars and a ton of time.
Deal?
OK.
Here it goes . . .
The first thing you probably want to do when looking for the best jobs for stay at home moms is stay away from multilevel marketing (MLM) companies (direct sales) and products.
(Think: Shakeology, Scentsy, LulaRoe, Mary Kay, doTERRA, Posh, Beachbody, Rodan & Fields, Pampered Chef, or any other products that fill your Facebook timeline that your friends are trying to sell you.)
I know it’s super enticing because your friend Jena knows Katie whose brother’s wife’s sister made SO. MUCH. MONEY. that she not only paid off allllllll their debt, but she also retired her husband, and now they spend their summers in Spain virtually growing money on trees WHILE THEY SLEEP!
Um. Ok.
Here’s the deal:
I don’t happen to think that MLMs are the best jobs for moms because they often take an initial cash investment and a ton of time—two things that moms usually don’t have!
If you have to take out a loan or put money on a credit card (or go further into debt) to start working for someone else, then this probably is not going to be a good way for you to make money for your family.
GOING INTO DEBT FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S COMPANY TO TRY TO MAKE MONEY FOR YOUR FAMILY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.
MLM company reps are MASTERS at the RAH-RAH-RAH and getting you hyped up (especially at group meeting and conferences).
DO NOT let some cheers and chanting and the rush of the moment trick you into thinking this is what you need.
If you need a $2,500 (or even $500 or less) initial investment, how many products will it take you to just get back to the baseline of ZERO before you start making any money for your family?
If a company gives you input on how to come up with your initial investment (“Just use your credit card!” “Just borrow the money from friends or family!” “Take out a second mortgage on your house!” “Don’t tell your husband yet! He’ll be shocked at your first check!”), then this should be a warning sign for you.
These are things I want you to think about BEFORE signing up for any MLM marketing (or direct sales) program.
MLM Moms Warning
Another thing that I find hard with MLM companies is that it is very time consuming building your network, hosting parties, and selling to your family and friends in an already saturated market WITHOUT a guaranteed return on your time and investment.
Think about it:
How many of the same products do you see pitched over and over and over again on Facebook alone?
What makes you think you’re going to be able to slide into oversaturated market and be the shining star that makes a ton of money with just a little time and an initial money investment?
I know it sounds good.
I know it sounds easy.
I know they’ve told that some of their moms are buying cars and paying off mortgages.
But, if it were that great and easy, I would be doing it. TRUST ME.
SO. . .
I believe the best jobs for moms are those with a more guaranteed way of making money (with little-to-no investment), where you have more control over the financial aspect OR are jobs where you can create something on your own schedule and then make passive income.
►For the purpose of this post, we are looking for less time consuming ventures, with more control of the financial aspects, that still allow plenty of time for homeschooling.
If you’re interested in MLM ventures as a way of making money, please thoroughly research them before investing or signing agreements. The first place you should start is a Google search with “[name of MLM company] scam.” THEN, consider the financial investment and what you could be using that money for in your family instead.
I’m not saying that SOME people don’t make money at MLMs–although I believe it’s very few people who make enough money to contribute to their family regularly in a significant way (if they’re honest with you).
Remember, there is no free, easy, “make money in your sleep” job or product.
If people are telling (or selling ) you that making money is easy, it should be an immediate red flag.
It is the job of MLM companies to evangelize their products and they are VERY good at it and talking people into things.
(Ask yourself: In this day and age of everyone knowing everything on social media, wouldn’t everyone be doing it if it really is that fun and easy to make as much money as they’re claiming?)
OK.
Now that we’ve covered that, let’s continue.
TIP #2. Don’t start a blog to make money.
OK, I’m not telling you not to start a blog.
And, I’m not telling you not to start a blog with the intent of making money.
But every list always has this as a one of the best jobs for moms and I’m here to tell you (with 18 years of experience to back it), that it’s not as easy as they make it sound.
Check this out…
How much money can you make blogging?
ProBlogger.com reported that 63% of bloggers make less than $100 every month.
LET THAT SINK IN FOR A MOMENT.
At the end of one year, you’ve made $1,200 for SO. MUCH. WORK.
And, that’s $1,200 a year if you’re lucky.
That probably won’t even cover your hosting costs and other fees you need to run a serious blog as a business (which is what you need to do in order to make any real money).
And, for the serious time commitment that you need, as well as the marketing and audience growth and engagement (not to mention associated costs), this might not be the route you want to go … at least not yet.
If you’ve been wondering how to make money blogging for beginners (or how to make money online with a blog), you might want to start that slowly by learning about how to blog as a business — including learning SEO and Pinterest — while you focus on some of the other side jobs for stay at home moms we talk about later in this blog post.
You can make money with blogging, but for most people, blogging is a longterm game and very few see significant returns in the first two years.
TIP #3. Look for work from home jobs for moms no fees.
If you’re looking for how I make money online for free, an important piece of advice is DO NOT pay to play.
What do I mean?
Legitimate stay at home jobs don’t have fees attached!
Aside from purchasing your own supplies/services (like internet connection) and equipment (like a computer) for yourself (or maybe even joining a professional job group where you have an annual membership fee), you shouldn’t be paying people to work for them.
Best jobs for moms who homeschool don’t make you pay money to be part of their team or to start work.
Fees should be another red flag that this might not be one of the legitimate work at home jobs.
So, look for legitimate work from home jobs with no startup fee.
►And, BEWARE those businesses that have fees but allow you to join and work on “consignment” or have other fee schedules where you pay a portion of what you earn back or those listed as “work at home jobs: free to start”.
And, look for the no fee work at home jobs!
TIP #4. Choose jobs that work with your schedule.
The next thing to remember is to choose something that works with your schedule.
Trust me when I say this: if you find the best ways to make money online and it just adds another huge stressor and schedule strain, then you will not be successful!
You don’t want to add a lot of time commitments to your already tight schedule between homeschooling and other family stuff!
So, be sure to choose something that you can do on a schedule that works for you and your family when you are researching how to make money from home.
TIP #5. Ask: What would I enjoy doing as a stay at home mom job?
This should probably be Rule #1, but:
Look for something you enjoy.
If you love helping others, check out being a virtual assistant where you can choose assignments on your own timeframe.
Or, if you’re more creative, look into selling your crafts or photos (and more).
If you’re into crime shows or podcasts, check out the information that we have [SCROLL DOWN BELOW!] about being on a virtual jury.
(For real!)
You definitely do not want to make yourself (and your family) miserable by doing something you hate to make extra money.
(That will bring up a whole new set of problems!)
Now that we’ve talked about how to find the best stay at home mom jobs, let’s take a look at actual jobs where you can make real money working from home.
(YAY!)
BE SURE TO READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE LIST!

How To Make Extra Money While Homeschooling
We’ve put together a list of LEGITIMATE best jobs for moms who homeschool so that you can stay home, homeschool, and make money online now!
(We don’t have any of that envelope stuffing crap here!)
Some of these are online jobs from home and others are legitimate work at home jobs where you do a combination of working online and offline.
And, some are ways to earn some extra money, while others are jobs you can grow into a business (if that’s what you want)!
Let’s take a closer look:
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #1: Sell Books on Amazon (and Other Items)
We’ll ease you into the our how to make money from home list with way to earn some easy extra money with stuff you probably already have for homeschooling!
Did you know:
Amazon allows you to sell books and other items?
It might be a great way to get rid of your old homeschool books, computers, video games and more that you’re not using any longer and make some money at the same time.
You can either do it more as a full time online job with an Amazon seller account or you can use their trade-in program to get rid of stuff you don’t need.
(We actually talk more about this in our FREE eBOOK below!)
I love this idea because:
a) It fits in naturally with homeschooling, and
b) It’s something you can get the kids involved in, and
c) It’s one of the easiest way to make money online, and
d) It’s fun!
You can make this a regular part of your homeschooling week by scouring thrift shops, garage sales, bookstore clearance aisles and more!
(If you’re looking for how to make money online as a teenager ideas, it’s great for that, too!)
If you don’t want to sell your books on Amazon, check other online marketplaces like BookScouter.com.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #2: Shop Cash Back Sites
Again, this is an easy way to make extra money (and help in saving while shopping!).
When shopping online, use sites that give you cash back or gift cards just by shopping your normal online stuff.
What are some of the best cash back sites (like BeFrugal, Ebates, etc.)?
Check out:
- Ebates.com
- BeFrugal.com
- MrRebates.com
- CouponCactus.com
- ExtraBux.com
- Ibotta.com
Using cash back sites is a no brainer because you shop like you normally do online, but you just start at specific site (or several specific sites).
Then, you earn money or gift cards or discounts just from shopping like normal, which you can use for your groceries, books, clothes, and more.
This is a great way to help take a strain off the budget so money can be reallocated to pay bills, etc.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #3: Hire Out Your Work
BH (Before Homeschooling) what did you do?
Were you in the corporate world?
Did you crochet, like, ALL. THE. TIME.?
Or, did you write non-profit grant proposals?
Did you volunteer at the church helping out in the office?
Did you cook and like making up your own recipes?
Do you like to draw and illustrate?
Can you make amazing logos and artwork online?
(Or, a thousand other things?)
Check out these websites for freelance jobs from home, where you can use your talents and make money on your own time:
- Fiverr
- Upwork
- PeoplePerHour
- Freelancer
- iWriter
- 99Designs
- Textbroker.com
- FreelanceWriting.com
- ProBlogger Job Board
One of the best things about freelancing is that you can almost always work on your own schedule.
(I’ve been doing it for 18 years now between homeschooling and other home/family/life stuff!)
You can pick and choose the projects you work on (at a payment that works for you), while also scheduling the work on your own time.
So, if you have a packed homeschooling month, just ease off on freelance projects.
Then, when your schedule is a little more laid back, take on more projects during those times.
Freelancing is one of the best jobs for moms!
In some cases, you may be asked to pay a small fee or a membership to be part of the freelancing pool on these sites. That is OK and a normal practice for these sites.
Personally, I like to make connections on LinkedIn (and other free social media and groups and through friend/business referrals) because it costs me nothing.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #4. Sell Your Photos
Do you love taking photos?
(Let me guess, you have a million on your phone? Yep! So do I!)
Have people told you that your photos are good, or do your pics speak to others?
Did you know that there are sites where you can sell your photos?
(I know! Make money by doing something cool!)
This is such a great idea because we live in an image-driven society. People are constantly looking for high-quality images for their websites, memes, promotional material and more!
Check out:
- Shutterstock
- iStock
- 500px Prime
- SmugMug (Pro)
- Etsy (Etsy is known for being a craft site, but you can sell your photos on there, too!)
- SqeeSqee
- Dreamstime
- DepositPhotos
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #5. Turn Your Crafts Into Cash
Are you a crafty person?
Do you knit or crochet?
Paint?
Doodle?
Do you like to make soaps or candles in your spare time?
Or, do you like to create art that is perfect for t-shirts, mugs, and more?
If so, you can create products to sell to others in your own “store.”
BUT…
Before we talk more about this, I want to tell you a secret . . .
BEST KEPT SECRET EVER ON HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME
EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETHING AND THERE’S A NEED FOR YOUR “SOMETHING.”
You just need to figure out how to package and market your “something.”
The best way to do this is to figure out what problem your “something” is solving.
For example, if your “something” is knitting, Google knitting how to and then scroll down to see the questions people are asking (see: “People also ask”—see Google example below).
THOSE ARE THE PROBLEMS YOU NEED TO SOLVE.
Just from this example alone, someone who knits can make money by:
- Making videos (with advertising attached via YouTube) on: “Is it easier to learn to knit or crochet?” and “What do you need for knitting.”
- Making free short videos on the topics and then offering paid services at the end of the video.
- Offering paid knitting classes for beginners.
- Creating a paid online class on how to knit.
- Selling “How to knit”content to businesses and craft sites.
- Creating knitting printables and patterns and selling them.
- & MORE!
This is the mindset you want to get into when you’re trying to make money from home!
►We have a complete guide and workbook that walk you through how to make money doing things you love. LEARN MORE HERE
OK.
If you want to make money online best ways, sell some of your crafts and art!
How to sell stuff online for cash:
- Etsy
- Zazzle
- CafePress
- Shopify
- Facebook MarketPlace
- eBay
Also, these sites are great because there is little or no upfront cost (most take a small percentage of your sales) and once you set up your store, you can make passive income — or income that comes in when you do basically nothing (or spend minimal time each week) after the initial set up.
The time just comes in when you’re creating your art or crafts!
You can also set up your own site and make money online on Paypal. However, I would give your creations some time and see how it goes before investing in your own website or blog.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #6: Test Out Apps, Watch Videos, Review Products, or Take Surveys for Cash
Are you a techie type?
Or, how much time do you spend watching videos each day?
(It’s OK, don’t be embarrassed . . .)
If you love that kind of stuff, you’ll love this best jobs for moms suggestion!
Check this out:
You can get paid for testing out websites, phone apps, and for even watching videos.
(For real! I. KNOW!)
Check out:
- UserTesting.com
- InboxDollars.com
There are also companies who will pay you to review products, services and websites, or take surveys, but you need to look for legitimate online surveys that pay cash (and other companies who will pay for your opinions). (So, do your research!)
Make money online by survey with:
- Harris Poll Online
- SurveyClub
- Global Test Market
- Swagbucks
- Harris Interactive
- Focus Pointe Global
- Schlesinger Associates
(In some cases, company will “pay” in gift cards or merchandise. Be sure you understand the payment before signing up!)
►UPDATE: Thanks to our awesome community, Joanna S. gave us this input on her experience with surveys:
“A word of warning about the survey sites like InboxDollars: you have to take a TON of surveys to make any significant amount of money. And that’s if they have surveys they want your opinion on. They are looking for opinions in certain demographics, so if you don’t fit, you don’t have surveys to take.”
So, be clear on the amount of money you want/need to make before choosing this as your money making path.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #7: Become a Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistant jobs are another of our favorite best jobs for stay at home moms because you can work online from your home, often on your own schedule!
Additionally, there are many entrepreneurs, small businesses, and bloggers who will pay you to post on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook (and other social media).
If playing on Pinterest (and more) is your thing, you can get paid to do that!
So, if you’re looking to help others with their business, simple tasks like entering data, writing content (including blog posts), or have always wanted to try out being a personal assistant, check out:
- VirtualAssistants.com
- TaskRabbit.com
- FancyHands.com
- Fiverr.com
- Facebook Groups (search for business groups in your niche)
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #8. Be a Tutor
You know that little thing you do called homeschooling?
Yeah, you’re already a tutor.
(YAY!)
What better way to use your homeschool skills than to make money tutoring or giving lessons (like piano, cooking, writing or whatever you’re good at)?
Advertise that you’re a tutor in Facebook homeschooling groups or post on sites like Care.com or Tutor.com.
Also, try out VIPKid.com or QKids.com.
Our contributor Gillian (work at home mom AND homeschooling mom) is a teacher at VIPKid and she LOVES it (and makes extra cash)!
Here’s what she had to say about it:
“[VIPKids] has increased not only our finances, it has given me so many more tactics that work for teaching my own children! I’m a better homeschooler now because of their methods.”
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #9. Sell your crap.
You know decluttering has been on your list, so what not make some cash out of it?
Today, it’s so easy to get rid of your stuff (without even having a garage sale!).
You can find online platforms to sell clothes, shoes, handbags, books (see #1), and even your old electronics.
(You might even get so good at this that you keep your eye out at thrift shops and can buy cheap things that sell for high prices online!)
Sell stuff online for cash using:
- Facebook Marketplace
- Mercari
- PoshMark
- Gazelle.com
- NextWorth.com
- uSell
- thredUP.com
- The RealReal
- Tradesy
- eBay (YEP! You can still make money on Ebay and we walk you through how to do that in our free guide below!)
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #10: Review Criminal Cases for Cash
Did you know you can be a virtual jury member?
(Isn’t that cool?)
Large law offices often create “mock juries” to determine reactions to cases.
And then, they will pay you for your time!
Check out:
- EJury.com
- OnlineVerdict.com
This won’t be an ongoing way you can make money, but it’s a fun (and interesting) supplement for extra money here and there.
You generally place your name on a list that notifies you when cases are available for your area.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #11: Redeem Rewards Points
Have you checked your bank cards, credit cards, and airline miles recently?
Most of these accounts now have reward points associated with them and many times you can cash these reward points in for gift cards like Visa gift cards, AmEx gift cards, and even grocery stores and restaurants.
This actually just happened to me! I forgot about reward points through my bank card and I was actually able to use my points for gifts for others and other items instead of using cash!
Don’t forget to use this as a way to help save money.
Remember: Anytime you can save money in one category it’s like getting cash for another category.
If your rewards points helps reduce your grocery bill, the money allocated for groceries that month can be reallocated to bills or debt (or even to pay for outside the home homeschooling classes!).
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME #12: Sell Printables
Do you like to play around with clipart?
Do you think creating is fun?
Do you already make worksheets and homeschooling printables?
Did you know that there’s a HUGE market for creative and unique printables, worksheets, coloring sheets, and workbooks?
You can use both PicMonkey.com and Canva.com to make free printables.
