10 Reasons Why Homeschoolers Are Annoying
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #10: Homeschoolers ARE weird (and know it).
You might think homeschoolers are weird.
That’s OK.
Homeschoolers own their weirdness.
And, we like to show it.
In fact, most of us who homeschool love to embrace our differences and not conform.
So, you may think it’s an insult to call homeschoolers weird or socially awkward, but most of us are OK with it.
UGH.
How annoying . . .
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #9: Homeschoolers aren’t that worried about what others think.
Homeschoolers live in a society where we are not accepted . . .
. . . like, A LOT.
Some people consider homeschoolers “radical” and others don’t have a clear understanding of what we do all day.
(HINT: It’s not just sit around in our jammies and watch TV.)
That means we’re used to the barrage of questions and judgments and misconceptions about what we’re doing.
We’ve developed a pretty thick skin and we’re comfortable in our decision.
So, no offense, but homeschoolers aren’t generally worried about what others think.
Are homeschoolers annoying for that?
OK, then.
Can we still be friends?
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #8: Homeschoolers might not experience the same level of peer pressure.
It’s true, homeschool kids probably don’t have the same level of peer pressure as other kids.
(I mean, how can you trust some kids who don’t even understand the pressure of We only wear pink on Wednesdays, right?!)
Many homeschool kids are with people who are very different from them on a regular basis, so they are accepting of differences and may not experience as much peer pressure.
In fact, it may be one of the reasons that we homeschool.
We get how that may annoy you.
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #7: Homeschoolers infiltrate public places during school hours.
Homeschoolers like to visit the parks, museums, libraries, and other places during traditional school hours.
So, it’s not uncommon to see a group of us sweep into an area.
(Contrary to popular belief and that homeschool socialization myth, we really do like to get our kids out and about.)
If you’re there with your little ones or you’re trying to have some alone time, it can bug the crap out of you.
And some of us feel very, very bad about it.
Really.
We’re sorry.
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #6: Homeschoolers can be know-it-alls.
Why are homeschoolers so smart?
Here’s the deal:
It’s not necessarily that homeschoolers are smarter than other kids.
It’s just that . . .
We’re passionate about learning.
I mean, SUPER passionate.
If we learn about a topic, we want to share it with you.
Everything about what we learned.
EVERY. LITTLE. THING.
We know it’s annoying, but we’re just excited about learning.
Humor us?
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #5: Homeschoolers tell you how great homeschooling is.
Like, ALL. THE. TIME.
We love homeschooling, yes we do. We love homeschooling, how about you?
No?
Really?
Let us tell you more, then.
We can be a bit overbearing about our love for homeschooling, but mainly because WE REALLY LOVE HOMESCHOOLING.
Even we agree this may mean that homeschoolers are annoying.
Group hug anyway?
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #4: Homeschoolers will question you.
And, you.
Or, you.
And you, and you, you, and you.
By definition we’re nonconformists, so don’t be offended if we question you.
A LOT.
It’s just our nature.
(Plus, many homeschoolers have a natural love of learning, so they want to know everything!)
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #3: Homeschoolers may not have time for you.
This one may surprise you, but homeschoolers are busy.
We mean, really busy.
Not only do we take care of our studies at home for part of the day, but most of us are involved in classes, lessons, co-ops, or other schools or social functions outside the home, and even volunteering and other services.
So, if we keep turning down your invitations, just know that it’s us, not you.
Really.
Why Are Homeschoolers So Annoying? Reason #2: Homeschoolers like to be with kids of all ages.
Homeschool kids are accustomed to being in groups of kids that span different age ranges.
(You know, like in real life.)
So, they might comfortably migrate to kids who are older and younger than them, as well as their own age ranges; it’s just the homeschool kids’ norm.
So, don’t be annoyed if they float around the group during a party or playdate
It’s just what homeschooled kids are used to.
And the Number 1 reason homeschoolers are so annoying?
Homeschoolers get to school in their pajamas.
It’s true, some of us really do homeschool in our pajamas sometimes.
We’re not sure what else to say except we would hate us too if that option wasn’t so awesome.
Sorry?
